Latest News: February 3, 2011 - Ashes for Beauty is now available! Check out the official cover, with original artwork by Rebekah Bentley:
From the back cover: Lily Wright knew everything would change the night she gave her blood to save Gabriel Martin's life. Still, she wasn't prepared for all the complications loving a vampire would bring. Now she is trying to balance the demands of her "normal" life as a doctoral student, daughter, and friend, while adjusting to the new normal - a boyfriend who is struggling to control his craving for her blood, a best friend who is more overprotective than ever now that he knows vampires really do exist, and - oh yeah - burgeoning psychic abilities that may end up being more deadly to her than the mysterious vampires who are out to kill Gabriel's sire, including anyone who might try to stand in their way. In this continuation of the romance that began in Through A Glass Darkly, Lily and Gabriel fight to hang on to the beauty of their love, even as the world seems to be burning down around them. August 24, 2010 - Ashes for Beauty, the sequel to Through A Glass Darkly, is officially under contract for a spring 2011 publication!!! May 28, 2010 - Updated the Minds Wide Open website with results from the creative writing contest. March 16, 2010 - I haven't had a chance to update the site in a while. Life has gotten very busy. I lost a dear friend to cancer on February 27th. Phil Adcock was a good man with a great heart. If you're on Facebook, check out the page for the People Helping In Love (P.H.I.L.) Foundation. Though Phil has gone on to be with the Lord, his good work continues through people who were touched by his (too brief) life. On a much lighter note, I have continued my work with the Minds Wide Open campaign. Below is a picture of my visit with Abbs Valley-Bossevain Elementary School. The students were well-behaved, attentive, and enthusiastic. It was really a pleasure to talk with them about creative writing! By the end of my visit, all expressed interest in participating in the MWO Creative Writing Contest. So, special thanks to Principal Sharon Smith for welcoming me into her school. In the coming weeks, I look forward to visiting other Tazewell County schools. I am also very excited about the MWO celebration weekend that will be held at Southwest Virginia Community College April 9-12, 2010. I'll be a guest speaker at the Friday evening reception and a featured author on Saturday, where I will do a reading and have copies of Through A Glass Darkly for sale.
February 4, 2010 - Through A Glass Darkly has the distinction of being Black Rose Writing's best-selling work for the previous royalty period, August 2009 - February 2010! January 27, 2010 - Virginia's Minds Wide Open - A Celebration of Women in the Arts campaign is up and running! As part of this, I will be co-sponsoring (with the Richlands Area Citizens for the Arts) a creative writing contest for Tazewell County, VA public school grades 3-12. This is such an exciting endeavor! More information will follow in the days to come. In the meantime, you can go to vamindswideopen.org to learn more about this statewide celebration. (This includes Whispernet delivery). December 3, 2009 - Through A Glass Darkly recently received its first professional review by Barbara Deming (from the US Review of Books). Ms. Deming says, in part: "Jennifer Webster creates a page-turner with her smooth style and an excellent weaving of unusual characters into an edgy, paranormal tale. This successfully carries readers to a satisfying, though creatively unique, conclusion. This is a first novel but readers should look forward to more intriguing tales from this talented author." Ms. Deming's entire review, which includes a summary of the book (with SPOILERS), can be found here. December 1, 2009 - My editor, Reagon Rothe, is author of the Misanthropy Series. Black Rose Writing has recently released a hardcover collector's edition of the first two books in that series, The Tower and The Cellar Door. I was honored to review both books and excited to see an excerpt from my review on the cover of Misanthropy, Book I: The Tower.
